Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Kansas City

I’m a Kansas City, Missouri-based therapist, passionate about helping people live healthier, more productive lives by working through issues that arise in their paths.

I have worked with various populations of people over my 16 year career including adjudicated youth, children and families in the child welfare system, and people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The people I have had the privilege of serving come from all walks of life and have encountered a myriad of personal challenges. I feel confident in supporting individuals struggling with situational depression, anxiety, past trauma, communication and relationship issues, family dynamics, grief and loss, and job satisfaction issues. I’m also eager to support individuals in the LGBTQ+ population.

Verbally processing the challenging things in life can make them significantly more manageable. Seeking therapy is such a vulnerable and brave thing to do and I’m inspired by that courage! I’m honored when anyone trusts me enough to invite me into their world to do such important work.

Core values that guide my work

Social Justice

I believe that everyone deserves an equal chance. As a social worker, it is my duty to remove obstacles when possible and increase access to opportunities, particularly for those who have the greatest need.

Self-Determination

I believe that each individual has the right to make their own choices and control their own lives. As a social worker, it is my duty to advocate for people who do not have a voice and to encourage those who do to advocate for themselves.

Non-Judgmental Attitude

I believe that it is not our role as fellow humans to judge each other. Rather, I believe as a social worker it is my duty to meet each individual where they are without judgment. My role is to support and guide, not judge.

Mental Health is Health

I believe there is still a negative stigma attached to issues relating to mental health. We still treat mental health issues differently than we do physical health issues. It is my duty as a social worker to help erase the stigma.

“ My mission is to support people in navigating the obstacles that arise in their paths so their lives can be more full and enjoyable. ”

SUCCESS STORIES
FROM my healthy CLIENTS

I've been meeting with Melissa for about a year now and she has been nothing short of amazing. I started therapy to help with the constant anxiety I had around getting sick. With time she has taught me tools to help manage my anxiety and set routines to help feel in control of situations that are hard to control. Thanks to her I am capable to deal with the things that have been thrown my way.

Melissa is one of the best counselors that I have had the pleasure of interacting with. SHe truly has a wide view and understanding of the human mind and emotions. Not only was she able to listen but she also prompted and encouraged me to think outside of my viewpoint. I was able to understand my situation with so much clarity and peace after my sessions with her.
